The story behind

Hi, I'm Beck.

Mum to Ava and Charlie. Married to a tradie. Founder of a little Gold Coast jewellery brand named after my two girls.

Beck with her daughters Ava and Charlie — founders of ava + charlie

Before Ava + Charlie, I had a life that ran on jet fumes and small smiles in tiny aisles. I was a flight attendant, then a travel agent — both jobs that taught me a lot about good quality, beautiful things, and the stories people carry with them.

Then I had my girls. Ava and Charlie. They are now tweens with strong opinions, busy schedules, and skin that — like their mum's — flares up the second cheap jewellery touches it. For years I'd watch them save up for a sweet little pair of earrings, wear them once, and end up with red, angry earlobes by the next morning. I had the same problem.

That's where Ava + Charlie started — not at a desk, not with a business plan. It started with me wanting to find pieces that were beautiful AND wouldn't wreck our skin. Quality, hypoallergenic, waterproof, made-to-last jewellery for women who actually wear their things. Not just keep them in a drawer.

I started small — a handful of earrings, a pop-up table at our local market, and a folding chair.

Those early markets are still some of my favourite memories. Saturday mornings on the Coast, talking to women who'd come back week after week to tell me how their pieces were holding up. ("It's been in the ocean all summer!") That face-to-face stuff is what I love most about this — and honestly, talking is one thing I've never been short on. My friends will tell you. I can chat the leg off a chair.

About the Pony Bangle.

A friend of mine showed me a bangle she'd been wearing for months — one of those cleverly-designed ones that holds a hair tie inside a hidden channel. "You should make something like this," she said. "But better."

So I did. I went back and forth with my supplier for months — getting the shape right, the weight right, the channel deep enough to actually hold a tie without it slipping out. The version I landed on is fully round (most are oval or cuffs, sits flatter against the wrist, and feels like real jewellery — not a gimmick.

I gave the first prototypes to my mum, my sister, and a handful of friends. They all came back with the same reaction: "I haven't taken it off." That's when I knew it was ready.

The Pony Bangle is now the piece I'm most proud of. It's the one customers DM me photos of — at the gym, at weddings, at the school pickup, in the surf. It does what it promises. It's the piece I never wanted to take off either.

A few things about me.

Most days you'll find me at the gym before 7am, on a beach walk by 9, or working from home with a true crime podcast playing in one ear. Weekends are usually market days — three locations across the Coast some weekends — and I love every second of being out there meeting customers face-to-face.

I love beautiful things. I love a story. I love getting to know my ava + charlie customers. And I love that my brand is named after my daughters is now also part of so many other women's everyday.

So whether you're here for the Pony Bangle, a gift, or just to have a poke around — thank you. It honestly means the world.

Beck
